아픔, 의사가 된 이유

21살에 목의 신경손상으로 인한 근위축증이란 희귀병을 진단받고 어디까지 진행될지
모르는 깊은 불안감 속에서 환자의 아픔을 보듬어 주는 의사가 되겠다는
결심을 하게 되었습니다. 그런 다짐으로 의대에 들어가 인턴을 마치고 케냐에 100일간
의료 봉사를 나갈 기회가 얻었습니다.

케냐에서 환자들을 치료하면서 사람 한 명 한 명의 생명이 얼마나 소중한지,
따뜻한 눈길과 말 한마디가 얼마나 중요한지 배울 수 있는 시간이었습니다.

아픔을 겪어 본 사람이 아픔을 이해할 수 있다는 말이 있는 것처럼 아픔은
내가 의사가 된 이유이며 내가 어떤 의사로 살아갈지에 대한 길을 알려주었습니다.

이런 마음을 잃지 않고 항상 환자의 마음을 공감하고 보듬는 의사가 되겠습니다.

Pain, why I became a doctor

At the age of 21, I was diagnosed with a rare disease called muscular atrophy
due to nerve damage in the neck, and I made the decision to become
a doctor who comforts the pain of patients amid deep anxiety about not
knowing how far it will go. With that determination, I got the opportunity
to enter medical school, complete an internship, and do medical
volunteer work in Kenya for 100 days.

It was a time to learn how precious each person's life is and how important
a warm look and every word is while treating patients in Kenya.

Just as there is a saying that someone who has been through pain can
understand pain, pain is the reason I became a doctor, and it taught me
the way to live as a doctor.

Without losing this heart, I will always become a doctor who empathizes
with and cares for the patient's heart.
