It is easy to get a tattoo, but difficult to remove it.

Minimizing skin damage

Are you still worried about side effects and pain?

Tattoo removal treatment design should vary depending on individual skin type, tattoo color, and pigment depth. It is most important to minimize skin damage and remove the tattoo cleanly without leaving scars.

Medical staff with a deep understanding of the skin and extensive experience in tattoo removal conduct face-to-face consultations and precise skin analysis to establish a customized treatment plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many laser sessions does it take to remove a tattoo completely?

Results vary significantly from person to person depending on the pigment’s color, depth, and ink type. At Geudaegoun Dermatology Clinic, we evaluate the condition of the pigment in person during your first consultation before giving you an estimated number of sessions. In general, with the PicoWay (피코웨이, Picosecond Laser), you can expect 5 to 15 or more sessions spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart (per clinical guidelines from the Korean Dermatological Association). Black and blue inks tend to respond relatively quickly, while white, yellow, and fluorescent inks may require additional sessions.

What is the PicoWay (Picosecond Laser), and how is it different from older nanosecond lasers?

The PicoWay (피코웨이, Picosecond Laser) is a laser with a pulse duration measured in trillionths of a second (10⁻¹² seconds). It delivers an ultra-short burst of energy (a photoacoustic effect) to pigment particles, shattering ink into far finer particles than older nanosecond lasers can. Think of it this way: if a nanosecond laser breaks a rock with a hammer, the PicoWay crushes it down to grains of sand. Macrophages then engulf these microscopic particles and carry them out of the body through the lymphatic system.

Clinical studies (published widely in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, JAAD) have reported that picosecond lasers offer meaningful improvements over nanosecond lasers in both pigment clearance rates and the number of sessions required.

The medical team at Geudaegoun Dermatology Clinic is made up of board-certified dermatologists who have published numerous papers in international journals such as JAAD, and we use only authenticated, genuine equipment.

Can the PicoWay also remove eyebrow tattoos and eyeliner tattoos?

Yes, semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo removal and eyeliner tattoo removal can be performed with the PicoWay (피코웨이). At Geudaegoun Dermatology Clinic, all procedures around the eyes are performed directly by a dermatologist, taking the delicate nature of this area into account. Semi-permanent pigment is often placed in a shallower layer of the dermis than a regular tattoo, so it tends to respond quickly. However, depending on the type of pigment (such as white-base blended pigments containing titanium dioxide), a rare paradoxical darkening reaction can occur after laser treatment (per the Korean Dermatological Association’s semi-permanent makeup guidelines).

We strongly recommend a small-area patch test before treatment, and for eyeliner removal we use a protective eye shield to safeguard the cornea.

What should I look for when choosing a clinic for tattoo removal in Busan?

When choosing a tattoo removal clinic in Busan, the key criteria are whether a board-certified dermatologist performs the procedure personally, whether the clinic uses authenticated, genuine laser equipment, and whether there is a proper aftercare and follow-up system. Geudaegoun Dermatology Clinic (Exit 2, Jangsan Station, Haeundae-gu, Busan) meets all of these criteria:

What does the tattoo removal procedure involve, and what are the recovery stages?

At Geudaegoun Dermatology Clinic, tattoo removal proceeds as follows:

Can laser tattoo removal cause scarring? How can it be prevented?

The likelihood of scarring after laser tattoo removal is low, but it is not zero. At Geudaegoun Dermatology Clinic, we apply energy settings and cooling protocols designed to minimize scarring, based on each dermatologist’s clinical judgment. A scar is tissue in which collagen has reorganized abnormally after the dermis is injured. For example, excessive laser energy or an infection can lead to a hypertrophic scar or a keloid.

To prevent scarring, please be sure to follow these guidelines:

If you are prone to keloids or have had scarring reactions after previous laser treatments, please be sure to let us know during your initial consultation. Please also confirm that the clinic uses laser equipment cleared by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS).
